enter basil, the red/white husky male. abandoned. starved. scared.

today is the day that it all ends.

he is safe, fed, and accepted. into my family.

my dreams, my hopes.

they can be forsaken, discarded. but this light flicker of light must remain.

the light that leads me. to protect it, to nurture, to cherish
the light that lights my darkness, revealing to myself the depth of my past sins.
the light that cleanses me, renewing my spirit that i may live afresh.

no matter how small this light may be, how hard it fights to shine. how much the darkness of its own existence stifles it.

this light is mine. mine to protect and support. and no matter how small the world makes it feel. it shines brightest in my night sky.

everything i cherish can be discarded away to protect it. this light.
